Description: The data in these files is derived from Wellogic, the Michigan Department of Environmental Qualities statewide ground water database. Wellogic currently contains approximately 535,000 water well records. Although the derived data represents the best available data, the 535,000 records cannot be considered a complete database of all wells or well records in existence. Until January 1, 2000 not all water well records for new wells in Michigan made it into Wellogic. For wells drilled before 2000 the rate of inclusion is highly variable from one county to another. Further, there is a quality control check on location that may exclude some Wellogic records from inclusion in the Wellogic Download Tool Dataset. michigan.WGS84.HYD_PT_DEQ_WATERWELLS

Description: Wellhead protection areas represent the land surface area that contributes ground water to wells serving public water supply systems throughout Michigan. The areas define a landscape in which management strategies are employed to protect public water supply wells from ground water contamination. michigan.WEBMERC.ENV_PY_DEQ_WELLHEAD_PROTECTION_AREAS

Description: This layer represents the soil map unit polygons in a raster format. Raster layers tend to display much more quickly and lend themeselves to certain types of modeling with other raster layers such as landcover, landuse or elevation. Each cell value is represented by the integer version of the mapunit key. The standard character mapunit key (MUKEY) is also included so that the raster attribute table can be joined to other soil attribute tables.
